LWV OF WESTON ANNUAL MEETING AND LUNCHEON AND BETTY HILL FORUM XVII
Aspetuck Valley Country Club

A rainy day in Weston didn't stop either golfers or League members.
LWV OF WESTON ANNUAL MEETING: A good morning to be inside doing business of the League.
What happened at the Annual Meeting:
- Quorum present.
- Wrap Up of the League 2015-2016 Year;
- Budgets approved.
- Steering Committee roles and responsibilities for individuals approved 2016-2017
- All positions, arrived at after studies, retained, as had been recommended at Program Planning.
New idea for informational meeting in September on aging in place policy
and its impacts on Weston; Voter Service.
And after their hard work, those at Annual Meeting closed up shop in a lovely meeting room and went to dine!
Members as well as just-plain interested Westonites came together before lunch to chat...
Introduction by Steering Committee member Laura Smits...
"THE MEDIA REVOLUTION AND THE IMPACT ON FOREIGN POLICY AND AMERICAN
POLITICS" WAS HIS TOPIC AND JOHN SEIGENTHALER HIT A HOME RUN!
IT WAS AN ENORMOUS CROWD AND FILLED WITH WESTONITES TRYING TO MAKE SENSE OF THIS PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN.
Mr. Seigenthaler is a familiar face in Weston and all around the world
of journalism and League was so proud to be able to record his excellent
speech. For those who attended there was the opportunity to
explore specific ideas, including how journalism is changing, has
changed with technology and where next? And why it can never go
back to the way it was. He did comment that focus on the local
news might be a way to change its present trajectory.
There were questions as to why we as Americans have some to a point
where there appears to be a divide so wide that one wonders if we can
ever compromise again. No one brought up the fact that this
election may be the first one to have a woman running for President of the United States.
In any event, LWV of Weston is so very grateful for Mr. Seigenthaler's
vision for the future and how we can all hope to make a difference!
